April May Clark our Poster Girl.
DLB member's typical reaction to Cowboy Mounted Shooting.

We list all members of Double L Bar Shooters on our roster both shooting and non-shooting. This is a family sport and non-shooting members are as important to us as those who shoot. Their support and encouragement are key to the success of the shooter and to the success of the club.. We want to acknowledge those family members who are in the background helping out and cheering the riders on.

June 11&12, 2011 NEW SHOOTERS CLINIC at WIND RIVER STABLEKelly, Erin, Jenifer, Jay, Mike, Erin, Greg, Laureen, Dave, Fred, Temple, Jamie, Jennifer, Holly, Amber, Debra, Kneeling Chris. Another successful new shooters clinic. Thanks for all who attended and their friends and families for the cheering and support and thanks to all the DLB volunteers for their help. We couldn't do it without you.

January 30/31 New Shooters Clinic At Wild Winds Farm

If you're going to hold a Cowboy Mounted Shooters clinic, it is really helpful to have a top horse and rider trainer with over 20 years experience. DLB is very lucky to have Dave Lohrey as the club's instructor. You have to know horses and people to make a clinic work, to keep everyone and their horses safe and moving forward, learning as well as building confidence and showing achievement.  With numerous regional, national and world barrel racing and APHA  titles for himself and his many clients and one of the two founding partners of Double L Bar Shooters, Dave & Mike, the other founding partner,  goal is to make every clinic participant and member of the club safe, proficient and have fun at mounted shooting,
Dave is applying all he knows to making Cowboy Mounted Shooting another discipline of achievement, for himself and others. His own meteoric rise in CMSA, winning both the  2010 North Carolina high point and Virginia State championships in his first full year of shooting and became a  level 4 shooter in March of 2011.

With a maximum of 10 shooters and over twenty experienced mounted club volunteers and many more on the ground helping, we get new shooters started with proven methods and slow personal work with each rider and their horse. Education and understanding are a strong part of our process. Horses and riders are brought along slowly, starting in a large open 20 acre field and eventually moving inside  to our 150' x 232' arena. Various calibers and loads of blanks are used to acclimate the horse and rider to the noise, flash and smoke of gun fire. Earplugs for both horse and rider are a must and are given out to all participants.

A two day clinic by no means will turn you and your horse into a seasoned mounted shooter. You will need additional practice, help and instruction. But you can see from the smiling faces in these pictures, their satisfaction with what they have accomplished.

If you're thinking of trying Cowboy Mounted Shooting give us a call. We'll get you started the right way. If you don't have a horse or guns, no problem, we do. If you've been involved in showing this is nothing like it. People here are friendly helpful and will cheer their competition on
Maybe you want to live your childhood or adult cowboy fantasy or you love to ride and shoot. This is the place to do it. Come to a meeting or practice and talk to our members. We love having visitors and love to talk about our sport. Our youngest rider is five and our oldest is sixty-eight. We can teach you to ride and to shoot if necessary. You won't find a friendlier more helpful fun loving group than Double L Bar Shooters.
It has been said, "This is the most fun you can have on the back of a horse".

We know you'll feel the same way once you try it!

NEW SHOOTERS CLINIC HELD MAY 1/2, 2010 AT WILD WIND FARMS
THE CLINIC WAS A GREAT SUCCESS, 4 NEW RIDERS AND HORSES. WITH THE HELP OF MANY OF OUR CLUB MEMBERS WE WERE ABLE TO HAVE THE NEW HORSES AND RIDERS SHOOTING OFF THEIR OWN HORSES BY SUNDAY MORNING. SUNDAY AFTER LUNCH WE HELD A 4 STAGE PRACTICE SHOOT TO SHOW OUR NEW RIDERS WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE TO ENTER A CMSA SHOOTING EVENT.EVERYONE DID GREAT AND ALL ARE COMING TO OUR SHOOT MAY 15/16, 2010.
WE COULDN'T HAVE DONE IT WITHOUT THE HARD WORK OF OUR MEMBERS. THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR THE MAKING OF ANOTHER SUCCESSFUL CLINIC

Clinic June 6-7 2009 Wild Winds Farm.

Our second clinic held for beginner shooters and their horses was another complete success.
Horses and riders acclimated to the sound of gunfire and were shooting patterns by Sunday morning.
All riders participated in the Practice for Points on Sunday and did well.
Thanks to everyone who helped make it a success.
L-R Shelia, Eric, T.R. Dave, Mike, Deb, Rob, Erin

On April 18/19 2009 We held our first clinic at Wild Winds Farm.
With the expert help of Lynn and Tommy Richardson the clinic was a complete success.
By the end of the first day everyone was able to shoot off their own horses and by the end of the clinic on Sunday riders were shooting patterns.
We picked up several new members from the spectators.
We look forward to more successful clinics and shoots at Wild Winds Farm and thank Debby Olson for all her help and letting us use her  great facility.
Thanks to everyone who participated to make our 1st CMSA event successful
Dave & Mike
